Spalding Associates are an independent environmental consultancy, established in 1997. We deliver clear, accurate and impartial advice on environmental planning for land use and development. We carry out ecological surveys on species and habitats, providing technical and scientific information in a clear way for decision makers, project managers and land managers. We work for a large range of clients, from international companies and statutory authorities to conservation organisations, local architects and individuals. We work on small to large scale projects including wind farms and provide ecological clerk of works to major projects. We provide scientific support for wildlife organisations and have a strong link with researchers at the University of Exeter.

Spalding Associates have considerable expertise in the ecology of abandoned metalliferous mine sites and quarries. We have carried out numerous surveys on these sites for a range of clients and provided management recommendations, including heathland translocation on metal contaminated sites. Understanding the historical and current state of these sites is the key to understanding their management and future potential. Adrian Spalding has been involved in editing and publishing a number of scientific papers and reports on the ecology of these sites and contributed a paper on their nature conservation value to the Bicentenary Transactions of the Royal Geological Society of Cornwall 1814 – 2014 (http://geologycornwall.com).
