Bob is a sole trader with experience in the South African, Canadian, and British mining sectors. Practical work has been as production manager in the deepest mines in the world – at 12,000 feet. He carries a South African mine managers certificate. The last 35 years have been in the small bore, hard rock, mining and tunnelling business. This has been for caves, mines and railways. Creation and operation of public underground rail access is a speciality. Bob is a registered contractor for the National Trust in Britain for heritage engineering projects.
Recent activities have included repairs to water wheels, mills, horse engines, deepening historic wells, refurbishment of mine headframes, shaft work, and re-access to old mines. Always at the sharp end, Bob has provided engineering solutions, ie. ingenious or cost effective solutions to a diverse range of preservation projects. At present these include old telephone boxes, an early cin ema, milking parlours, rail track replacement, and cliff/rock stabilisation. Fully equipped workshop facilities can create or repair most things. Big business/big budget/prestige projects are of no interest to him. The challenge of small interesting ones are.
